| Re: LEDC |
| | The term LEDC is a little outdated these days. A full listing of the levels of development of all countries of the world is in the UN Human Development Report 2004. You will see from this that the boundary line is no longer clear cut. The countries listed as high human development are more like MEDCs, and from there onwards could generally be considered LEDCs - however this division would include Russia as an LEDC which most definitions do not do. If you use the old Brandt Report division, MEDCs are all the countries of Europe, Japan, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, pluse the old Soviet Union (USSR). With the break up of the USSR, some areas would have been listed as LEDCs and some as MEDCs. The old LEDCs were all of Africa, all of Asia except USSR & Japan, all of South America and all of central America (that is North America EXCEPT USA & Canada). Hope this helps. |
